Welcome to Gorman’s Stops

“Why are you doing this?”

Many times over in my life, I have promised myself I will do things knowing the likelihood I follow through is low. “I’ll wake up early 3 times a week and go to the gym” I said to myself, knowing good and well I hate waking up more than a cat hates a bath.

A year ago, I promised myself that I would start this website. I bought the domain, (kind of) designed the site, and was ready to roll. Then… nothing. No posts. No trips recorded. No football games analyzed by some late 20’s ball knower who probably gives himself much more credit than he deserves (as all ball knowers do).

Then came an illness. Then a first home. Then a wedding. Soon enough, it had been one year since the promise had been made, and not one article or post had been written to give myself the satisfaction of accomplishing the thing I set out to do.

For now, the stretch of breaking promises is over. This website exists entirely as an outlet for my creative side. Maybe it will be writing about one of the many memorable meals or trips I have been fortunate enough to take in my 20s. Maybe it will be silly, stupid little stories. Often, it will be writing about my second favorite sport – college football.

Now, if you are asking yourself “why would you write about your second favorite sport and not your favorite?”, don’t be a nerd. While there is plenty to write about in the hockey world (and I will promise to give some of those thoughts here one day, just… don’t hold your breath), college football to me is a microcosm of so much of the American psyche, culturally relevant in ways very few things can be, and something that I believe is (somehow) still not fully covered the way I want to see it done.

So how do I set out to accomplish covering this beautiful, stupid, ignorant-at-times sport? The only way I know how – randomly! You will find some of the content I put on here week in and week out will be game week previews or summaries from the previous week. I may even do a power ranking (the ball knower confidence is off the charts). For the most part, I will speak about this sport and the culture around it with the freedom and ignorance of a man making $0.00 to write about teenagers kicking each other’s asses with a vigor only young men without 401Ks or an understanding of home owner’s insurance can.

If you are a fan of college football, eating, traveling, and everything in-between, stick around. You might find some of this interesting, and if not, keep that shit to yourself. Can’t have that ball knower confidence dwindle…

If you read this far, consider following me on twitter at @jgorms24 for free, even dumber (but faster!) analysis of ball and life. Cheers to a wonderful 2026 football season. May Your Team win it all!
